Newbies

What is Newbies?
It is a class, or social group, for those who are relatively new to Falls Church Presbyterian Church. What kind of class? Well, those of you who participate will decide what it is. Here are some possibilities:
It can be a class to explore the intersections of faith and art, science, movies, books, and music. A possible discussion topic covering multiple weeks could be a spiritual journey through the music of the Beatles. Or the theological underpinnings of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Or a tour of the Christmas-themed art in the National Gallery.
Or it can be a forum to discuss current political and social issues. For example, we could have a lively discussion about the challenges that a faithful person has in being involved in the political sphere. Or how we can support affordable housing.
Or it can be a group of people who simply want to get to know each other better through off-site events and home gatherings, such as board game nights, evenings at the pub, or weekend hikes in the Shenandoahs.
Or it could be a group that takes on specific missions of compassion in our community.
Or it could be a hybrid of some or all of the above, plus any other ideas that you bring to the table.
Who is it for?
It is for anyone . . . anyone who feels that they are relatively new to FCPC, and who want to get to know other “Newbies.” It’s also for those who aren’t looking for a traditional adult Sunday School program, but might want to join in when a particular topic or event sounds interesting. It is for all ages, genders, orientations, and beliefs. Even if you have been coming to FCPC for a while, and are looking for something like this, then you are welcome to be made “Newbie” again!
When and where is it?
That will be up to you. During the interest-exploring and orientation stage, we plan to meet at FCPC at 9 a.m. on Sundays, in the library. Coffee and Texas Donuts will be available! Feel free to bring healthier options! Locations and times may change as the group evolves.

Death and Taxes (Without the Taxes]: Advance Care Planning
11:15 a.m. Sundays, September 20-October 4, Library
Advance care planning is a formal process of thinking about, discussing, and documenting your preferences for future medical care in case you become unable to make or communicate your choices yourself.
Advance care plans are a good idea for adults at all stages of life. If you already have an advance care plan but have had a life event since it was written – kids have grown up and out, you’ve retired, you have a new diagnosis – it’s a good idea to revisit your plan. If you have a partner or friend who might act as your medical power of attorney, it is recommended that you take the class together.
